Questioning the division of power between the Prime Minister, Dr.
Manmohan Singh and Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi, Bihar Chief
Minister Nitish Kumar said that the current UPA-II regime lacks
integrity and goes against what the architects of the Indian
Constitution envisaged. He also added that it was false to assume that
the Congress Party had failed on several fronts due to alliance
compulsions, whereas the fact was that were conflicts within the party
itself. There is an issue of a consensus between the largest party
itself, Nitish says. He furthur states that since the congress party has
come into the power, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his government
have been under severe criticism over alleged involvement in various
corruption issues such as the telecom scam, the misappropriation of
funds of Commonwealth Games funds, manipulation in the allotment of
flats in the Adarsh Housing Society, besides many others. The most
recent scam linked to the government is the Comptroller and Auditor
General's report on a coal scam, which ha resulted in parliament not
functioning during this past week. The BJP has held the Prime Minister,
who then held direct charge of the coal ministry, responsible for what
has been estimated as a notional loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crores by the CAG
in coal block allocations, and demanded his resignation.
