Jim Carrey Currently Being Courted to Play The Colonel in 'Kick-Ass 2'

It might be time for Jim Carrey to make a comeback. That's not to say that Jim Carrey has been gone, but his ventures like Mr. Popper's Penguins, A Christmas Carol, Fun with Dick and Jane and Yes Man have all been underwhelming to say the least. I Love You Phillip Morris was a step in the right direction, but not exactly spectacular. Now with Dumb & Dumber To still a big possibility to film in 2013, there's a chance Carrey could return to his former glory and Deadline has word on a new role that could help as the actor is being courted by Universal for a supporting role as The Colonel in Kick Ass 2. That just sounds awesome! In addition, it sounds like the film will indeed take the comic title of Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, but not all of the comic will likely make it into the film. One element that's a certain inclusion though is the creation of the newly formed "Justice Forever" group of superheroes which Kick-Ass joins in the sequel. Donald Faison is playing Dr. Gravity and Robert Emms is playing Insect Man, two members of the team, and Carrey would be playing The Colonel, who is known as Colonel Stars in the comic book. The character used to work for John Genovese (the character is Mark Strong's Frank D'Amico in the movie), but along with another henchman, becomes a born-again Christian before Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl attack the organization and take all of them out. In the comic, The Colonel is responsible for starting Justice Forever along with another man from the aforementioned criminal organization who goes on to be called Lieutenant Stripes. We're not sure how Justice Forever is going to play out on the big screen, but having Carrey on the team with Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz would be incredible. Apparently the actor is a big fan of Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the first film, but this is far from a done deal right now, especially since Vaughn isn't directing the sequel. Personally, I hope this works out so we can see Carrey really cut loose in a comic book movie again.
